Among all the Indian Recipes East Indian delicacies are famous for their originality, taste and flavor. Each region of India specializes in some particular type of food.  The eastern regions of India are famous for sweets and fish recipes. Rasogolla or Rasgulla as it is called in many places is one of the most popular sweets in India and is a product of the eastern region.

East Indian Cuisine is famous for the desserts. Apart from Rasogolla, there are chumchum, sandesh, rasabali, chhena poda, and kheeri. While the first three are the priorities of Bengali culture, the last three are the gift or Orissa to Indian food culture. The specialty of East Indian cuisine is that they delight both the vegetarians with delicious items like luchchi (small round fried bread), chholar Dal (Peas dal), dum aloo (potato recipe), Dhokar dalna (a recipe of grinded peas cake and spices) and also non-vegetarian diners with multiple fish, meat and egg recipes.

Among all the East Indian Food the delicacies made with coconut like the prawn malaicurry and curd fish and vegetarian items made with posta are the most popular items. They are also unique as such recipes are not found else where in the country.

One similarity of East Indian recipes with the South Indian Recipes is that both use thickening pastes like cashew and poppy seed paste. However the milk based sweets and sweet water fish recipes of East India, especially that of Bengal and Orissa stand out.
